After previously announcing that CCTV footage confirmed that mutilated cats found within the Universiti Malaya (UM) campus were caused by stray dogs, it looks like the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has changed its views on the shocking cases.
In a statement today, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa was quoted by Harian Metro as saying that the police will be opening an investigation into the deaths of the cats, allegedly killed with sharp objects.

Rusdi added that the investigation is following the latest report received by the police, including the press conference by animal activists, which revealed that based on a post-mortem on one of the slain cats, known as ‘Lily’, was cut using a sharp object.
Accordingly, the police will be recording the statements of the animal activists this Thursday (26 December) to help with the investigation.

Previously, My Stray Rescue, alongside animal activist Shima Aris, revealed that she received the body of ‘Lily’ and took it for a post-mortem report at a veterinary clinic.
This report apparently contradicts the police’s statement that the attack was done by dogs.
“The body is currently with a private vet at a private clinic, and I asked the specialist vet to take a more detailed look at the body. I have received a medical report and an X-ray that shows clearly that Lily, the cat, did not die by dogs,”
“From the medical report, its body, as seen in pictures, was cut using a sharp object. So, it’s quite impossible if it is said that dogs were the culprits in this incident,” Shima said in a press conference.
