PDRM mourns fallen FRU officers, IGP assures welfare of families will be prioritised

THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has pledged full support for the families of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officers who were killed in a road accident involving a police truck and a stone-laden lorry in Teluk Intan, Perak, on Tuesday morning.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain conveyed heartfelt condolences and reaffirmed PDRM’s commitment to caring for the victims’ next of kin.

“On behalf of the PDRM, I am saddened by the incident that befell them.

“Their sacrifice is deeply appreciated, as the accident occurred after they had carried out their entrusted duties.

“PDRM will ensure that the welfare of the families of those who perished is given the utmost attention,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, echoed these sentiments in a Facebook post, describing the deaths as a great loss to the nation.

“I received the sorrowful news of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of eight FRU members in a collision involving their truck and a stone-laden lorry in Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, this morning.

“May Allah forgive their sins, grant them a place among the faithful, and reward them for their service and sacrifices to the nation,” he wrote.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah also extended his sympathies to the grieving families and assured that all necessary support would be provided.

“I hope the families of the victims remain strong and patient during this difficult time.

“I am confident that, in addition to a thorough investigation, the police will take all necessary measures to ensure their welfare,” he said during a press event in Kampung Beng on Tuesday.

Perak police earlier confirmed that ten FRU personnel from Unit 5, Sungai Senam, Ipoh, had died in the accident, which occurred at approximately 8.30am.

The FRU lorry carrying 18 officers was struck head-on by the trailer, believed to have suffered steering failure after the officers had completed duties related to the Chitrapournami celebrations in Hilir Perak.

The collision resulted in eight officers dying at the scene, one more later in hospital, and the trailer driver also succumbing to injuries—bringing the total death toll to ten.

Ten other officers were injured and rushed to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment. - May 13, 2025
