The Bera District Police have asked the owners of the Muhamad Harun Facebook account to come forward and provide further information regarding a post they uploaded to the ‘Bera Unite’ Facebook page on Saturday (March 29).
The post claimed that PDRM’s Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) officers did not take action against 2 Chinese motorcyclists who were not wearing helmets, but instead took action against Malay motorcyclists.
“Today’s drama, in front of my eyes, there were 2 Chinese people on 1 motorcycle, neither of whom was wearing a helmet. They passed by in front of URB police officers, and they were not stopped,”
“When I made a turn, I saw the same officers stopping 2 motorcycles that were ridden by Malays who were heading back to their hometowns. They were wearing helmets but they had to push their motorcycles to the police station,” the account wrote, while questioning why there is a double standard in enforcing the law.
Show up or face the law
The Bera District Police Chief, Superintendent Zulkiflee Nazir, shared that the owner of the Facebook page has since been requested to show up at the Bera District IPD or any other nearby police station with proof of his claims, or risk legal action.
“The man also questioned whether the law-enforced only applied to certain races and claimed that similar incidents often occur in the Triang area,”
“If the individual fails to come forward to give evidence, action can be taken under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.
