KOTA KINABALU: A man in his 30s was killed after being hit by a Mitsubishi Triton 4WD at Jalan Lintas near Iramanis on Monday evening.
District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said the accident occurred at around 6:55 PM when the pedestrian suddenly crossed the road, making it difficult for the driver, a man in his 20s, to avoid a collision.
“The driver was heading from Kolombong to Kota Kinabalu International Airport when the pedestrian unexpectedly crossed from the left to the right side of the road,” he said in a statement.
The impact flung the victim forward onto the road while medical personnel later confirmed his death due to severe head injuries.
The driver sustained chest pain and was taken to Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest the pedestrian's negligence caused the accident, but further investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police urge the public to exercise caution on the road and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents.
