PENAMPANG: Residents along Jalan NC Mogunting are fed up with the slow response by the relevant authorities to make Jalan NC Mogunting passable again following the major landslides here two weeks ago.
Families in Taman Gayamas, Kg Hubah, and Kg Babah Bunduon, as well as surrounding areas are enduring unbearable traffic jams and lengthy detours, adding up to an hour to their daily travel as 90pc of the road has collapsed.
“All of this is due to the authorities’ failure to act with urgency, said the residents.
Mohd Ashraf Chin of Taman Gayamas said they had to endure massive jams every morning and evening as they are forced to use the single Mahandoi road.
Morrin Lojinon and Terry Disimon of Kg Hubah added that they must now take a much longer route to Donggongon, spending more than 45 minutes extra daily because no diversion has been made.
What frustrates them most is the total absence of visible work from JKR, which has an office nearby.
“The Public Works Department (JKR) has given repeated assurances, yet no diversion has been built.
“We cannot ignore the glaring contrast where the collapsed road at Kg Sogumou in Madsiang along the Penampang, Tambunan road was addressed in less than a week, but Jalan NC Mogunting residents remain stranded.”Pritchard Gumbaris, Political Secretary to Warisan Deputy President Datuk Darell Leiking, contacted the District Engineer, who promised that a diversion would be constructed on Oct 1 and wondered why road concessionaire, Globinaco, is also not playing a part.
Pritchard expressed disappointment that it could take three weeks to even start a diversion when other areas received action in less than a week.
Jeffrey Leiking, Warisan Penampang Chief, said since Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (PMX) announced RM10 million had been allocated for urgent repairs of collapsed roads, Jalan NC Mogunting should be treated as a priority.
“The Chief Minister himself frequently travels this route. There is no excuse for further delay.
He must instruct the Works Minister and JKR Penampang to immediately construct a safe diversion and begin permanent repairs, without hiding behind bureaucratic timelines.
This is not about politics. It’s about the people. Families whose well-being has been disrupted simply want to reach work, school, and home without being punished by government inaction.
