PENAMPANG: The Penampang District Council will implement a Plastic Bag Reduction Campaign starting April 1, 2025.
It is in line with the 2021-2030 Plastic Sustainability Framework by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and the "Say No to Single-Use Plastic Bags" campaign by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
In a statement on Monday, the council urged businesses to stop providing plastic bags or offer reusable alternatives such as paper, fabric, or mesh bags.
"Meanwhile, the public is urged to bring their own shopping bags when purchasing items in Penampang.
"All business premises are requested to display this campaign notice at their payment counters," said Penampang District Council President Francis Chong.
