600 Penang Civil Defence Force personnel are on 24-hour standby as the Northeast Monsoon brings unpredictable weather and potential flooding risks.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A total of 600 Penang Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel are on standby for deployment amid unpredictable weather conditions.

State APM director Colonel (PA) Lokman Hakim Abdul Rahman said all personnel are on 24-hour alert, with focus on Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Utara districts.

He explained that overflow comes from Kedah as rivers flow through both districts before discharging into the sea.

Lokman advised the public not to be overly concerned as all government agencies and private entities are prepared to assist affected residents.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has urged the public to remain vigilant as the country enters the Northeast Monsoon phase.
