A couple on a motorcycle, caught in a viral video engaging in aggressive behaviour on the Penang Bridge, has been fined RM2,000 each by the Magistrates’ Court for their actions. Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit imposed the fine, with a default sentence of six months in jail, on Muhammad Hafiz Ong Abdullah, 50, and his wife, Ong Ser Ting, 37, after they pleaded guilty to the charge of criminal intimidation.

The incident occurred at Kilometer 2.8 of the Penang Bridge around 5 pm on February 5, where the couple was accused of intimidating Mohd Faizul Mat Zain and Mohd Syadid Sulaiman. The charge, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Syakila Dahari handled the prosecution, while the couple, who run a noodle business, did not have legal representation.

In the widely circulated video, the duo can be seen riding recklessly and attempting to assault other motorcyclists who overtook them on the Penang Bridge. The footage sparked outrage and garnered attention on social media platforms.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible behaviour while driving or riding. Engaging in aggressive actions not only endangers the lives of the individuals involved but also poses a threat to other road users.

Authorities have urged all motorists to adhere to traffic laws and regulations, maintaining respect and courtesy towards fellow commuters. Instances of road rage and intimidation should be reported promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on the road.

The imposition of fines in cases like this aims to deter similar behaviour in the future, promoting a culture of accountability and respect among road users. It also underscores the seriousness with which such offences are treated under the law, emphasizing the need for individuals to exercise restraint and responsibility while on the road.
