Penang City Council cracks down on unlicensed businesses run by foreigners

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has taken decisive action against several unlicensed businesses operated by foreigners, demolishing and sealing premises during an enforcement operation last Thursday.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, MBPP said a car wash in the Timur Laut district, operated without a valid licence, was demolished under Section 46 of the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) also took part in the joint operation.

In the Barat Daya district, enforcement officers sealed two further business premises run by foreigners without licences—one used for slaughtering and selling chicken, and the other operating as a retail outlet. - May 3, 2025
