Penang CM, Dr Mahathir share contrasting views on voter turnout

GEORGE TOWN – Penang caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said that up until 10am this morning, the situation has been orderly and the voting process has been smooth.

“Everything is progressing well and voter turnout looks encouraging so far,” he said when met during his rounds to numerous polling stations in the state.

Chow also took time off to take selfies with voters and members of the media.

In contrast, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a voter for the Anak Bukit constituency in Kuala Kedah, said turnout was low based on his observations after casting his vote at 9.22am.

He shared several photos on Twitter, saying he voted together with his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

“I hope voters will all come out because this election is important to determine our future, the direction of our states, and also the country.

“I would also like to thank EC workers for ensuring the state elections run smoothly,” he said. – The Vibes, August 12, 2023
