PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is leading an investment and trade mission to the United States to procure new tech investments on the back of the state and federal governments' pledges of RM75 million to grow high-tech initiatives.
Chow would be visiting Silicon Valley in the USA to seek new initiatives and investments in new-age chips which would power the next phase of digitalisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He would be accompanied by the state investment agency, InvestPenang's chief executive officer Datuk Seri Loo Lee Lian, from today until October 5.
Earlier, Chow told a business audience at a chamber of commerce gathering that Penang cannot afford to rest on its laurels, nor can it be satisfied with past achievements.
The state's manufacturing sector must continuously improve itself and seek breakthroughs to seize new development opportunities, he said.
"The recently concluded KL20 Summit has already established Penang's determination to move toward high growth, high value industries. The state's clear goal is to create more high-paying jobs for Penang through technological and industrial upgrading, fundamentally improving people's lives."
Chow said in a statement that the objectives of the mission are to renew ties and forge relationships with the corporate headquarters of American investors in Penang. - September 28, 2026.
