Two men, both in their 30s and 40s, have been apprehended by the police following an altercation at a convenience store located in Seberang Jaya, Penang. Shedding light on the incident, Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Helmi Aris revealed that the clash occurred late on Monday night, around 11:50 pm.
According to Helmi, the confrontation ensued when two men approached a salesperson within the premises, with one of them requesting alcohol. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding arose, leading to a heated exchange between the two parties. Matters quickly escalated into physical violence, culminating in one of the individuals wielding a helmet to strike the other outside the store.
As a result of the scuffle, one of the involved parties sustained minor facial injuries, while the other emerged unscathed from the altercation.
Helmi elaborated that the case is currently under investigation and falls under multiple legal provisions. Specifically, it is being examined under Section 324 and Section 323 of the Penal Code, which pertain to the punishment for voluntarily causing harm using dangerous means. Additionally, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 is also relevant, addressing disorderly conduct in public areas.
Section 323/324 of the Penal Code carries legal consequences for those found guilty of causing harm to others through violent means. Similarly, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act focuses on regulating public behavior to maintain order and safety.
The incident gained widespread attention after a video capturing the altercation between an inebriated individual and the convenience store owner went viral on various social media platforms earlier in the week.
