The Penang Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has received 163 complaints about RON95 petrol quality across two station brands, with fuel samples sent for chemical analysis.

NIBONG TEBAL: The Penang branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has received 163 complaints regarding the quality of RON95 petrol, involving two petrol station brands.

Its director, S. Jegan, saId all RON95 petrol samples collected following these complaints have been sent to the Department of Chemistry for further analysis, however, the results are not yet available.

“This matter also concerns several other states in the central zone, therefore, any test results or related information will be announced by KPDN headquarters,” he told reporters after launching the Deepavali 2026 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for the state of Penang here today.

Previously, claims circulated on social media alleging the presence of water in RON95 petrol, which reportedly caused problems to vehicles after they were refueled at several petrol stations in Penang.

Jegan noted that there was one attempted complaint, which was subsequently withdrawn after the individual was informed that KPDN would conduct an inspection at the petrol station in question.

“When informed that the petrol station belonged to one of the brands for which we had already received complaints and that we would be visiting it for an inspection the complainant withdrew his report. Consequently, we have only received complaints involving two petrol station brands so far,” he said.
