Consumers in Penang are urged not to panic as fuel remains widely available, with only Shell stations facing a temporary supply issue due to a delayed shipment.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has advised the public against panic buying following viral social media reports of fuel supply disruptions at several stations in the state.

Its director S. Jegan clarified that only one oil company, Shell, had reported a temporary supply disruption due to a delay in the arrival of a delivery ship compared to the original schedule.

“Therefore, Shell is taking appropriate steps to address this issue,” he said in a statement.

Jegan confirmed that a meeting found other brand petrol stations were not experiencing any problems and that fuel could still be obtained easily.

He revealed that his office had so far received only one report of a petrol station facing problems with RON95 supply, while another five stations were affected in terms of diesel supply, all of which were Shell outlets.

The concerns among consumers were sparked earlier by a story that went viral on social media alleging several petrol stations in Penang were experiencing fuel supply problems.
