PENANG police have stepped up night-time patrols around boarding schools across the state, deploying both mobile patrol vehicles (MPV) and motorcycle patrol units (URB) as part of a broader initiative to deter bullying and strengthen campus security.
State Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the routine patrols are aimed at increasing police visibility, particularly around schools with dormitory facilities.
“As a proactive step, we’ve agreed to take action on all bullying cases and, for preventive measures, we will increase the frequency of School Liaison Officers (PPS) at affected schools,” he told reporters following the October monthly assembly of the Penang Police Contingent and the launch of the 2nd Bridge Royal Malaysia Police Solidarity Fun Ride 2026.
“In addition, we are mobilising URB and MPV patrols to schools with boarding facilities at night to reinforce police presence,” he added.
The move comes amid growing public concern over student safety, particularly in boarding institutions where bullying incidents have drawn national attention.
Police record statements over murder of man in suitcase
Meanwhile, police have recorded statements from three individuals as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of a man whose body was found stuffed inside a suitcase near the Ampang Jajar Flats in Permatang Pauh on 9 October.
The individuals include the person who found the victim's vehicle, another who discovered the body, and a family member of the deceased. Police have not ruled out the possibility of calling in additional witnesses.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Lee Boon Han, was reported missing on 8 October. His body was discovered with plastic covering his head, his hands tied, and a neck injury, raising suspicions he may have been murdered elsewhere before being left at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death. - October 17, 2025
