Penang’s health authorities confirm no tuberculosis (TB) clusters detected, with the situation under control and close monitoring ongoing to prevent spread
GEORGE TOWN: Penang has not recorded any tuberculosis clusters and the situation remains under control, according to the state’s health committee.
State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Si Zen said close monitoring is being conducted with the State Health Department to prevent community spread.
“We have taken note of the statement from the Johor State Health Department regarding the spread of TB in the state, but in Penang, the situation remains under control,” he told reporters.
Gooi advised the public to stay vigilant and seek immediate treatment if they experience related symptoms to contain transmission early.
He said certain high-risk hotspots, particularly densely populated residential areas, are under close surveillance as a preventive measure.
Gooi added that the state has seen an overall downward trend in infectious diseases like HFMD, COVID-19 and dengue compared to last year.
His comments follow Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad’s confirmation of a TB cluster in Kota Tinggi, Johor, involving 33 positive cases.
