GEORGE TOWN, Oct 12 — A salesman from a private company in Bukit Mertajam lost RM1.027 million after falling victim to an online game investment scam.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the 34-year-old man lodged a report at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Headquarters (IPD) yesterday after being duped by the syndicate through a Facebook advertisement.

He said the victim came across an online game investment called sandsm2s5.club on Facebook in early September and was drawn by its promise of a 50 per cent profit within a short period.

“The victim made an initial transfer of RM300,000 on Sept 3 into a local company’s account, followed by seven more transactions totalling RM727,000 to five different company accounts between Sept 10 and Oct 9,” he said in a statement tonight.

Azizee said the victim realised he had been cheated after discovering that the sandsm2s5.club website was no longer accessible and the contact number used by the syndicate had been deactivated.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — Bernama
