A GOVERNMENT backbencher has suggested that Penang stop funding for football due to poor crowd attendance for home games and lacklustre performances.
Goh Choon Aik (Bukit Tambun - PH) said that the state allocates RM8 million annually to the Penang Football Club (PFC), which is currently in 10th spot in the Malaysian Football Super League.
He said this at the state legislative assembly sitting.
Goh said that he does not have any enmity towards the football authorities but there needs to be changes made to revive the sporting scene in Penang.
Instead of channelling the RM8 million to the football club, he instead wants the amount to go towards other sports, especially those with high performance results.
Goh also urged the state government to conduct an audit of Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) since the body has been allocated many projects to execute.
Goh said that there is a need to ensure that CMI is functioning effectively and efficiently.
Izhar Shah Arif Shah (Seberang Jaya - PN) also questioned why CMI has a different public account compared to other state linked firms.
