Penang: Two tourists injured by falling debris along Armenian Street

TWO tourists were injured when a wooden beam and concrete debris from a heritage building structure at a premises on Armenian Street. George Town fell on them today.

The incident reported at 1.11 pm occurred when the husband, in his 50s and wife, 40s, were walking past the building.

It is believed that the couple are from Sri Lanka.

A team of eight firemen from the Lebuh Pantai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), along with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), were dispatched to the location upon receiving an emergency call.

“Equipment arrived at the location at 1.17 pm and found that there was a collapse of debris and wood from the beam on the first floor of the building."

Personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) were also at the location to assist in the operation.

Firemen cordoned off the area to conduct a structural assessment of the heritage shophouse. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. – August 4, 2026
