Pensioner faces seven years for threatening wife

Kota Kinabalu: A 63-year-old government pensioner was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here Monday, with threatening to kill his wife last year.

Amrah Liwangsa, who appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, pleaded not guilty to criminally intimidating his 58-year-old wife at a house at Taman Perdana Emas, Petagas, Putatan at 7.40am on Sept 25, 2022.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

The prosecution in applying for a new mention date proposed bail at RM6,000.

Amrah who was not represented, requested a lower bail amount.

Stephanie set Feb 9 for case management and released the accused on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.

In another case, a 21-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or two months jail for having lottery tickets paraphernalia illegally last year.

Md Ikmal Amir pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to having two slips of the illegal lottery at 2.45pm on Jan 6, 2022 at Donggongon town, Penampang.

The offence under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail on conviction.

The prosecution told the court that Ikmal was arrested by police, who found him carrying out the gambling activity during the Ops Dadu at the said area.
