After the anime craze, ChatGPT users are now using the AI chatbot to transform themselves into action figures—because why not?
People have been flooding the internet with their Studio Ghibli-fied photos made possible by the help of ChatGPT’s 4o update. The other half of the internet is crying foul with many citing Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki’s sentiments on artificial intelligence in a 2016 documentary where he calls it “an insult to life itself”. Interestingly, some people have noted that ChatGPT stopped accepting the prompt and generating images for them though that hasn’t stopped a number of others continuing to generate Ghibli-style photos.
However, that trend may have to make way for a brand new one. Users are now using the AI chatbot to generate a brand new style of photo: action figures. Netizens are uploading photos on ChatGPT so it can generate their very own action figure complete with accessories and a label.
The ChatGPT action figure trend is the new AI trend on the rise
You’ve seen action figures before where figurines come in a packaging along with a number of accessories. Now you can generate your very own action figure with based on your personality with the help of ChatGPT 4o’s image-generating capabilities.
It’s unclear how this trend started but there’s been an uptick in these images being posted on social media. Popular page Farangs Gone Wild have hopped on the bandwagon and produced action figures for “Pattaya Old Boy”, an old white dude with a beer belly complete with a Chang singlet and ATM; and “British Lad in Phuket”, a six-pack-bearing shirtless dude with a fanny pack across his shoulder and, uh, a mysterious substance.
The debate surrounding intellectual property and AI rages on. But at least this trend isn’t capitalising on the specific art style of an artist or studio unlike the Studio Ghibli trend.
How to do the ChatGPT action figure trend
If you want to give the trend a try, it’s pretty simple. Go to ChatGPT and upload a photo of yourself with this text prompt: “Create an image of an action figure in packaging labeled ‘Your Label’. Use the attached photo as a reference for the face. The cardboard section should be ‘colour’. Include an accessories section with items like ‘Your Accessories’.”
Give the chatbot a few minutes and it should generate the image which you can then share on your socials. As per usual with AI, results may vary as evidenced by my attempt. You can try playing around with the prompt and being more specific like adding what colour the background should be, if you should be holding an accessory, or what the colour of the label should be.
