BJP state president Rajeev Bindal on Sunday said the results of elections in four municipal corporations (MC), which the BJP won 3-1, have made it clear that the people have rejected the Congress-led state government.

Bindal also claimed that the BJP had beaten the Congress in the elections to municipal council, nagar panchayats and panchayati raj institutions as well.

While addressing a press conference here, Bindal said the BJP-backed candidates did very well in urban local body elections, securing leads in most municipal councils and nagar panchayats wards. He said BJP’s victory lead in three out of four MCs indicate a growing desire for political change in the state.

“State government’s failures have forced employees, pensioners, youth and various sections of society to protest on the streets. Through these elections, the people of the state have made it clear that they are no longer willing to accept poor governance and anti-people policies of the state government,” said Bindal.

He also termed Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s claim of an 80 per cent victory as false and baseless.

Bindal alleged that the state government failed to fulfill its guarantees made to the women, youth, farmers, employees and the people.

“Women had been misled through guarantee schemes, youth had been disappointed regarding employment and farmers had been left without adequate relief. Also, developmental works across the state have stalled while the government remains focused on shutting down institutions, schools and government offices. These results also reflect people’s confidence in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led central government,” he added.
