Filipino soprano Christiana Serafin de Ocampo will return to the Manila stage on Aug. 8 for “Per Amore,” an evening of opera featuring selections from the works of Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini.
The concert, scheduled at 6 p.m. at Varlez Pianos on LGI Building along Ortigas Avenue in San Juan City, will also feature tenor Randy Gilongo and pianist Reynaldo “Raki” Gendrano.
According to de Ocampo, the program will present arias and duets from Verdi’s “Aida” and “Otello,” as well as Puccini’s “Tosca.” The works explore themes of love, sacrifice, jealousy, heroism and redemption while showcasing some of opera’s best-known repertoire.
“I am delighted to be joined by my esteemed colleague, tenor Randy Gilongo, and by the wonderful young pianist Reynaldo Reyes Gendrano,” de Ocampo said. “It is always a joy to collaborate with artists who share the same passion and commitment to bringing opera to audiences.”
De Ocampo said the concert is intended for both longtime opera enthusiasts and first-time listeners.
“We warmly invite both seasoned opera lovers and those who may be experiencing this repertoire for the very first time to join us for what promises to be a memorable evening of great music,” she said.
Based in Europe for much of her career, de Ocampo has performed and taught internationally before returning to the Philippines for a series of concerts and masterclasses. She said she hopes to share her experience with Filipino musicians and contribute to the country’s classical music community.
