IPOH, Oct 4 - The Perak Veterinary Services Department (DVS), in collaboration with the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) Northern Brigade Intelligence Branch, foiled an attempt to transport 63 head of cattle from Kelantan to the Klang Valley without permission via Cameron Highlands.
Perak DVS deputy director Dr Rohaiza Yahaya said the joint operation followed nearly a week of intelligence gathering, which led enforcement personnel to stop a vehicle believed to be carrying the livestock.
The vehicle was stopped between about 1am and 2am today along the North-South Expressway from Simpang Pulai towards Bidor, heading south.
“Checks found that the driver failed to produce any documents authorising the transportation of the livestock.
“The entire rear section of the vehicle had also been covered with canvas, believed to be an attempt to conceal the activity from the authorities and avoid detection,” she said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM15,000 or other punishment stipulated under the Act upon conviction.
