The Perak government has pledged to assist 655 students who missed the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, ensuring they can continue their studies in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) field. State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah announced that the State Education Department (JPN) and other relevant bodies are actively working to locate these students.

“The priority for JPN is to identify these students, as some may have already begun their careers,” Khairudin explained. “If all goes well, we will facilitate their enrollment in TVET programs, offering opportunities for skill enhancement, knowledge enrichment, and future career development.” He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Creative Youth Camp at Bazar Ipoh.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously urged SPM school leavers, especially the 10,160 who did not sit for the examinations, to consider TVET studies as a viable pathway to a fresh start and promising career opportunities. Khairudin echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in the feasibility of this path given that over 60 percent of educational institutions in Perak offer TVET-related programs.

“We must seize this opportunity to support these students in their quest for knowledge while also strengthening our skilled technical workforce,” he emphasized.

In line with this initiative, Khairudin announced that the state government will host a large TVET carnival in Perak on July 14. The event aims to provide exposure and opportunities for those interested in TVET education. “At the carnival, participating educational institutions will offer insights and guidance, allowing interested individuals to register for suitable courses on the spot,” he said.

This proactive approach by the Perak government highlights its commitment to addressing educational disruptions and ensuring that all students have access to valuable career pathways, ultimately contributing to a more skilled and capable workforce.
