Perak KPDN investigates viral video of foreign-registered vehicle refuelling with subsidised RON95 petrol at a station in Ayer Tawar.
IPOH: The Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has opened an investigation into a viral video showing a vehicle with a suspected foreign registration number refuelling with subsidised RON95 petrol at a station in Ayer Tawar, Manjung.
Perak KPDN Director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the Manjung KPDN branch acted immediately upon receiving complaints and upon viewing the video shared on social media.
“Initial investigations found the incident occurred at 9 pm on Wednesday, with the RON95 petrol purchase made by a local citizen using the BUDI95 facility, with payment made via credit card at the counter.
“However, the vehicle with the suspected foreign registration number had only a portion of the purchase successfully pumped before refuelling was halted,” he said in a statement today.
He said KPDN has collected and reviewed CCTV footage from the petrol station to help with the investigation.
Kamalludin said the KPDN has opened two investigation papers under the Control of Supplies (Prohibition of Sale and Purchase of Controlled Goods) (RON95 Petrol) Regulations 2026.
The first case involves the petrol station, which is alleged to have sold RON95 to a foreign-registered vehicle without the controller’s written permission.
The second case concerns the purchase of fuel for a foreign vehicle, which is also prohibited without official authorisation.
Kamalludin added that the cases are being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which provides for a fine of up to RM1 million for the first offence by individuals, up to RM3 million for subsequent offences, or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
For companies, a fine of up to RM2 million can be imposed for the first offence and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences, if convicted.
