IPOH: Perak MCA has taken full responsibility for the mistake of putting up the Jalur Gemilang and Perak state flag upside down, which went viral on Friday, with the staff member involved resigning with immediate effect.
Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the party viewed the incident seriously and apologised to the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah and Malaysians over the mistake.
He said both flags were taken down as soon as the error was noticed before being put up again in the correct position.
“Perak MCA takes full responsibility and views the incident seriously. The unintentional mistake was rectified immediately, while the staff member involved has resigned with immediate effect,” he said in a statement today.
He said the incident occurred this morning when a staff member at the Perak MCA headquarters tasked with installing and putting up the flags in conjunction with National Month celebrations made the mistake.
“Police officers from the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrived at the Perak MCA office at about 1 pm today to conduct investigations and record statements from the staff member involved and the headquarters’ administrative officer.
“Perak MCA has and will continue to give full cooperation to the relevant authorities regarding the incident,” he said.
He said the staff member had also expressed regret and voluntarily offered to resign, with the Perak MCA headquarters accepting the resignation out of respect for his personal decision.
“He has served with dedication for many years. We will handle matters concerning him arising from this incident appropriately,” he said.
