IPOH, January 11 — Perak police crippled a syndicate processing and disturbing heroin worth more than half-a-million ringgit following the arrest of two siblings in Kampar on Monday.

State Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the two men, aged 44 and 45, were nabbed in a house, which they used as a drug lab.

“Upon raiding the house, we seized 40.135kg of heroin worth RM602,025, 11.05kg of caffeine worth RM3,757 and 4kg of liquids suspected to be a drug substance worth RM60,000,” he said during a press conference at the Perak Police Headquarters here.

He added that police also confiscated chemicals and equipment believed to be used for processing drugs.

“We also seized a car worth around RM50,000 in the operation,” he said.

Mohd Yusri said the two suspects tested positive for morphine.

“However, neither one has a criminal record. Based on our initial investigation, we discovered that the syndicate only started operating in December last year.

“The drugs that were seized are believed to be for distribution in Perak and can be used by 85,000 addicts,” he explained.

He said that the duo was remanded for seven days starting from yesterday.

“We are still investigating the case as we think there are also other suspects involved in the syndicate,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence, if convicted.
