KUALA LUMPUR — The Perak Football Association (PFA) has announced it is ready to open the doors of its iconic home ground to youth development programmes and football academies until the team makes its return to the Super League.

The decision comes as the Perak Stadium undergoes a major turf and drainage overhaul, with the existing cow grass being replaced by Axonopus Putra — a finer, denser variety developed by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and approved by the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The RM842,000 project, confirmed by State Housing and Local Government Committee chairperson Sandrea Ng, also involves ground-levelling works and the installation of a new drainage system.

The previous turf had been blamed for several Malaysia Football League (MFL) match postponements last season.

Following Perak FC’s withdrawal from the Super League due to financial constraints, the new field will require three to six months to mature after planting, with full readiness expected by the middle of next year.

Speaking to Scoop, PFA president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin said the side, currently competing in the A1 Semi-Pro League, has been using the Manjung City Council Stadium as its home ground.

“We still exist — and there is no truth to claims that our club has folded. We will definitely make a comeback to the Super League when the time is right.

“For now, we are playing in Manjung, which has been approved by the Amateur Football League (AFL), and we truly appreciate the state government’s initiative to upgrade the pitch at our iconic stadium.

“Before we return to the renovated venue, we are more than happy to share the stadium for youth development and grassroots programmes until the end of our A1 Semi-Pro League campaign,” he said.

Perak FC, former Malaysia Cup champions, officially announced their withdrawal from the 2026 Super League season in April, citing financial difficulties.

The decision marked a sombre moment for Malaysian football. Founded in 1921, Perak has competed in the M-League for over a century.

Nicknamed The Bos Gaurus, the club has won two Super League titles, eight Malaysia Cups, and two FA Cups over its storied history.
