Thinking of planning a trip to Indonesia? Now might be the perfect time, according to an Indonesian student currently studying in Malaysia.

In a TikTok video, she pointed out that the Rupiah has dropped significantly, making it super worth it for Malaysians to travel and shop in her home country.

A quick check by WeirdKaya on the foreign exchange platform XE showed that the current rate is around Rp3,768 for RM1.

Back in April last year, RM1 couldn’t even hit Rp3,400. So, within just one year, the difference has nearly reached Rp600.

The Indonesian woman then broke it down in Ringgit terms: If one were to exchange RM10,000 now, they will get almost Rp6,000,000, which means extra cash for shopping or food.

To my Malaysian friends, this is the best time to visit Indonesia, especially if you’re planning to splurge,” she said in the clip.

Not so great news for Indonesians

On the flip side however, things aren’t as rosy for Indonesians having to accept the fact that their currency is weakening.

The woman explained that political and economic instability is driving foreign investors out, which in turn is causing the Rupiah’s value to drop even further.

“The government’s decisions right now are super important. But what we’re seeing instead are controversial policies.

“If people still say Indonesia is doing fine, I really want to know, what are they basing that on?”

Before ending her video, she encouraged Indonesians to be more cautious with their spending. As for Malaysians, she welcomed them to take advantage of the exchange rate while it lasts.
