KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, expressed deep disappointment over corruption cases in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) that have reached the highest levels of command.
In his speech at the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament today, His Majesty said corrupt practices must be combated on a large scale and without compromise.
“Perhaps in the future, only sergeants will be appointed as the Commander of the Armed Forces (PAT).
“This is just the tip of the iceberg. I am confident there are many more out there — whether in the Customs Department, Immigration, the police, and so on — and those present in this hall will continue to be pursued until they are found,” His Majesty said.
According to Seri Paduka, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must conduct investigations into corruption cases quickly, firmly, and thoroughly, regardless of rank or position.
It is not only the recipients of bribes, His Majesty said, but also the givers and intermediaries who collude in corrupt acts who must face action.
“Corrupt practices must be fought on a large scale. The government should provide special court channels so that corruption cases can be resolved swiftly.
“To all Members of Parliament (YB) and civil servants, remember that the positions you hold are a trust from the people and the nation.
“If you misuse power to misappropriate public funds, accept bribes, or collude to protect those who bribe, you are betraying the country,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
According to the official Parliament calendar, the Dewan Rakyat sitting will last 20 days, with the main focus on the debate on the Motion to Uphold the Royal Address, scheduled from tomorrow until January 29. This will be followed by ministerial replies over four days beginning February 4.
The calendar also lists eight sitting days for the presentation of bills and other government business from February 11 to March 3.
Parliament will not sit on February 2 and 3 in conjunction with Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam, as well as from February 16 to 19 for the Chinese New Year celebrations and the start of Ramadan that week.
Meanwhile, the Dewan Negara is scheduled to sit for 13 days beginning February 23. — January 19, 2026
