The beautiful beach paradise of Perhentian Islands in Terengganu has been named the 3rd top destination in Asia for ‘slow travel’ by the digital travel platform Agoda, whereby the picturesque islands recorded 1 of the highest average lengths of stay among tourists.

In case you’re not familiar, slow travel is an approach to travel which encourages travellers to stay longer at their destination to create deeper connections with local culture and people, thus resulting in meaningful travel experiences.

In a press release, Agoda revealed that searches for slow travel have grown threefold over the past 5 years.

Accordingly, to find out the best destinations for slow travel in Asia, the digital travel platform analysed booking data from the 1st 3 months of this year.

Here are the top 8 rankings from the study:

  1. Khao Lak, Thailand
  2. Seoul, South Korea
  3. Perhentian Islands, Malaysia
  4. Tokyo, Japan
  5. Siargao Islands, Philippines
  6. Pekanbaru, Indonesia
  7. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
  8. Ahmedabad, India

Agoda dubbed Perhentian Islands as the quintessential beach paradise of Malaysia which offers slow-paced tropical bliss.

Furthermore, the islands of Perhentian Kecil and Perhentian Besar where crystalline waters meet soft sandy shores make for an ideal sanctuary for relaxation and aquatic adventures such as snorkelling and diving amidst colourful coral reefs.

The digital travel platform also calls for visitors to embrace the untouched allure of Perhentian Kecil’s Adam & Eve Beach which is accessible only by a trek through lush landscapes.
