In conjunction with Visit Malaysia (VM) 2026, my former MAS colleagues, friends and students in Seremban briefed me that Negeri Sembilan has seen several major cultural, regional, and sporting happenings: (1) Cultural Events & Festival - The state recently wrapped up its landmark Perpatih Fest 2026 at the Negeri Sembilan Museum (Muzium Negeri) in Seremban. Running through the end of October into early November, the 3-day festival celebrated traditional Adat Perpatih heritage, featuring cultural performances, traditional games, costume competitions, and a grand gala concert to boost cultural tourism. (2) Earlier in August, Seremban hosted the inaugural Nine Arts Festival across venues like the Seremban Lake Gardens and Royal Sungei Ujong Club. It brought together contemporary & traditional Malaysian arts, dance troupes, the Sutra Dance Theatre & visual exhibitions. (3) The Major Basketball Leagues featuring NS Matrix Deers vs Karisma Arena.
My family and I even though originated from Perak, but we love Negeri Sembilan cuisine (Masakan Nogori), probably influenced by Haji Mohamed Dom and family, our close neighbors when were residing at the Government Quarters in Federal Hills. We understand that Masakan Nogori is one of Malaysia's most distinct regional culinary traditions. It is rooted heavily in the heritage of the Minangkabau people who migrated from West Sumatra centuries ago, the food is famous for its fiery heat, rich coconut gravies, and unique smoking techniques, like the real classic Masak Lomak.
Last Saturday, my son, Farouq and his wife, Nadja with their son Daniel brought my wife, Zarina and I to Peria Shaftsbury Cyberjaya for lunch. It is a popular restaurant located in heart of Cyberjaya that specializes in authentic, traditional Negeri Sembilan cuisine. It is known for its rich, spice-forward, and comforting heritage cooking, it brings the bold and fiery flavors of Nogori food right into town. The restaurant is widely praised for its clean, cozy, traditional ambiance & friendly service, making it a great spot for lunch breaks or group dinners for people who love nice spicy Malay food.
