A Perikatan Nasional lawmaker has raised doubts about the sincerity of Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham's apology regarding his comment on including non-Muslim experts in the special committee for reviewing the jurisdiction of the Syariah court.
Former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan criticized the apology as an "old tactic" employed by the Democratic Action Party (DAP), claiming that they frequently make provocative statements that disrupt national unity and then retract them without taking responsibility. Wan Saiful expressed dismay at the lack of serious action taken against Ngeh and the DAP by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Pakatan Harapan-BN government.
He condemned their lackadaisical attitude towards addressing the matter, calling for stronger measures to be taken against those who deliberately touch on sensitive issues related to race, royalty, and religion. Last week, Ngeh apologized and retracted his proposal to include non-Muslim experts in the special committee, following clarifications on the committee's formation to advise the National Islamic Affairs Council headed by Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Ngeh's apology came after Sultan Sharafuddin reminded non-Muslims to respect and refrain from interfering in matters related to Islam in the country. Wan Saiful, who is also the Tasek Gelugor MP, went on to urge Umno leaders to stop defending and supporting the DAP among Malay Muslims. He called on them to be firm in their stance and withdraw support for Anwar if he continued to handle DAP's alleged rudeness with leniency.
Furthermore, Wan Saiful emphasized the importance of the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission taking stricter action against those who intentionally touch on sensitive issues related to race, royalty, and religion. In summary, the Perikatan Nasional lawmaker has questioned the sincerity of Ngeh Koo Ham's apology over his remark on including non-Muslim experts in the special committee for reviewing the Syariah court's jurisdiction.
Former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan criticized the DAP for employing a pattern of making incendiary comments and later retracting them without facing consequences. Wan Saiful also called for stronger action against those who intentionally touch on sensitive issues and urged Umno leaders to withdraw support for Anwar if he continues to handle DAP's alleged rudeness with leniency.
