KUNAK: The Perikatan Nasional (PN) has officially launched its election machinery for the Kunak constituency on Saturday in preparation for the 17th state election.

Kunak PN Coordinator Kasman Karate, 41, said the coalition is adopting an approach centred on peaceful politics and solving people’s problems.

“We are implementing good values in politics. We support politics that builds and unites the people, not politics of insults or hostility,” he told Daily Express during the launch ceremony here.

“The people have the right to choose their representatives. After Nov 29, whoever the candidate is and whichever party wins here, that is the electoral process. We want good and mature politics,” he added.

The election machinery launch was officiated by Pendang Member of Parliament Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim, who is also a PAS Malaysia committee member.

During the ceremony, Awang handed over the PN flag to Kasman, symbolising the launch of the coalition’s election machinery, with a PN candidate set to contest the seat in the upcoming state polls.

Kasman said the PN candidate for the seat would be announced as early as Nov 11, ahead of nomination day scheduled for Nov 15.

He is expected to be fielded to contest the Kunak seat.

He contested under the PAS ticket during the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018 but lost in a four-cornered fight won by Warisan at the time. The other contesting parties included Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat).
