Perikatan Nasional (PN) has taken an important step towards transparency and accountability by setting up 26 portfolio committees to oversee the federal ministries in the current Parliament. This move has not gone unnoticed by the people of our country and for good reason. By establishing these committees, PN has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring that our government operates in the best interests of the people.

I strongly believe that the actions taken by Perikatan Nasional to create these portfolio committees are praiseworthy and should be recognized as a positive step. This committee will be led by the respected Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, the Opposition Leader.

Datuk Seri Hamzah has brought to light critical issues that the government has been neglecting for too long. His focus on the skyrocketing cost of living is an essential reminder that the well-being of the people must be a top priority for any government. With prices rising dramatically in recent months, it is clear that urgent action is needed to alleviate the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

It is time for us to acknowledge the harsh reality that the B40 community in our country is even larger than we previously thought. In fact, it is estimated that around 52% of our population is earning less than RM4,850 per month - a shocking figure that demands our attention. Is it really B40 or should we officially turn to B52 now as said by Datuk Seri Hamzah?

Given the current economic instability in our country, it is unlikely that this number will decrease anytime soon. In fact, the situation may worsen for many Malaysians, especially those who are already struggling to make ends meet. We cannot ignore this issue any longer, as it has a significant impact on the well-being of our society as a whole.

It is clear that the incompetence of the government is causing undue suffering for the people of our country. One of the most pressing issues is the ongoing egg supply shortage, which has yet to be adequately addressed by those in power. Despite repeated reminders from Datuk Seri Hamzah and others, the government has failed to take decisive action to resolve this issue, leaving ordinary Malaysians to suffer the consequences.

What is particularly galling is the government's response to this crisis - asking the people to reduce their consumption of chicken and eggs. This is simply not a feasible solution, as chicken and eggs are the most affordable source of protein for many. It is a basic necessity that should be available to everyone, regardless of income level.

It is time for the government to stop passing the buck and take responsibility for the issues that are impacting the lives of everyday Malaysians. The egg supply shortage is just one example of the many problems that the people are facing due to government incompetence.

With these committees in place, the people will finally have a direct line of involvement in the crucial issues that affect their daily lives. No longer will the government be able to hide from its responsibilities and ignore the concerns of the people.

Through these committees, the opposition will be able to ensure that the issues that matter most to the people are brought up in Parliament and given the attention they deserve. This is a vital function in any democracy, as it ensures that those in power are held accountable for their actions and that the voices of the people are heard.

The 26 portfolio committees are an important safeguard against government negligence and corruption. They represent a real opportunity for change and a step towards a more equitable and transparent society. We should embrace this development and demand that the government takes the committees seriously, and uses them as a tool for positive change.

As a citizen of Malaysia myself, I share the desire for stability in our country. I believe that this decision made by the opposition is one that will bring true change to society. We shall look forward to the success of this. Together, we can create a future where the needs of the people are put first, and where our government is held accountable for its actions.
