THE youth leadership of Malaysia’s Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition has stressed that no single party has the authority to make unilateral decisions, underlining that all coalition matters must be resolved through the Supreme Council in accordance with Article 13 of the PN constitution.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, the heads of the youth wings of PN component parties urged leaders at all levels to exercise political wisdom, uphold proper decorum, and adhere to ethical standards in steering the coalition.
“PN Youth also calls on leadership at every level to practise politics with wisdom and uphold ethics in the coalition, to realise the broader agenda for the welfare of the people and the future of Malaysia,” the statement read.
The statement was jointly issued by Hilman Idham, Chief of Bersatu’s Armada youth wing; Lee Boon Shian, Chief of Gerakan Nasional Youth; and Justin Prabakaran, Chief of MIPP National Youth.
The declaration comes in the wake of Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s official resignation as PN chairman, effective 1 January 2026. The former Prime Minister expressed gratitude to all PN leadership for their support during his tenure at the helm of the coalition.
Tensions between PAS and Bersatu have intensified in recent weeks, following political turmoil in Perlis.
The resignation of PAS Sanglang assemblyman Mohd Shukri Ramli as Menteri Besar triggered a leadership change, with Bersatu’s Kuala Perlis assemblyman, Abu Bakar Hamzah, appointed as the new state chief executive.
The youth leaders’ statement also appears to respond to calls from PAS, including from its youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, for the PN chairmanship to be handed to PAS. By reaffirming the role of the Supreme Council, PN youth leaders are signalling a push for collective decision-making to maintain coalition stability amid these leadership shifts. - December 30, 2025
