Held on 17 May, 2026, at Dataran Wawasan, Putrajaya, the event organized by Social Security Organization (PERKESO), was graced by Hon. Deputy Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Khairul Firdaus bin Akhbar Khan, who said, that “This event is aimed to educate our Malaysian workforce on the importance of a balanced, active lifestyle in preventing workplace injuries and chronic illnesses. It is importance of combating the sedentary lifestyles and reducing occupational health risks by strengthening social security awareness. The event fostered as a supportive community environment, bringing the public awareness to champion the national social agenda and safety nets.” PERKESO Chairman, Dato' Sri Subahan bin Kamal, was also in attendance.

PERKESO plays a foundational role in safeguarding the economic, physical, and psychological wellbeing of the Malaysian workforce. Acting as a national safety net, PERKESO operates on a joint-responsibility “solidarity fund” model to manage risk, replace lost income, and promote sustainable workplace practices. It administers the Employment Injury Scheme to insulate workers, and their families from sudden loss of income due to work-related accidents. It distributes Temporary & Permanent Disablement Benefits to sustain workers while they recover or adapt to a disability due to occupational illnesses. (www.perkeso.gov.my.>wilayah-persekutuan<)

As HR practitioner, I noticed over recent years, PERKESO has evolved to cover missing gaps in the national workforce and mitigate risks before they occur, by promoting holistic workforce health screening programs. Coverage has expanded broadly to secure vulnerable economic segments, including Self-Employed Social Security Scheme, the Housewives' Social Security Act, and the equal inclusion of migrant workers under key protective schemes.

My wife, Zarina & I together with our sons, Farouq & Fariz with their colleague, Aiman, joined the 12,000 participants for this community engagement & inclusivity. The run and bicycle rides opened to all ages and physical abilities, featuring accessible categories such as 3km, 6km, and 12km runs alongside a 35km cycling route. It encouraged families, corporate teams, and individuals to socialize and stay active together. Timed around the national Labor Day celebrations, the event served as a festive and rewarding appreciation of the country's workforce, offering lifestyle incentives such as lucky draws prizes.
