A Perlis civil servant is remanded for five days over a RM200,000 bribery case linked to the awarding of medals and honours from an association.

KANGAR: A civil servant in Perlis has been remanded for five days from today to assist in an investigation into a bribery case involving about RM200,000 linked to the acquisition of various medals and awards from an association in 2024.

A source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the remand order for the 57-year-old man was granted by Kangar Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal following an application by the Perlis MACC today.

The source said the suspect was arrested at 2.40pm yesterday after giving his statement at the MACC office here.

He is suspected of receiving the money in 2024 while serving as the association’s Perlis chief commissioner, in return for facilitating the awarding of honours to individuals.

“The total number of individuals who paid the suspect to obtain the awards is still under investigation,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Perlis MACC director Mohd Nor Adha Ab Gani confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
