The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended multiple individuals, including the son of the Perlis Chief Minister, as part of an investigation into the fabrication of false claims documents totalling RM600,000.
As reported by Berita Harian, a senior official from the Perlis Chief Minister's office has also been placed under remand. This remand order was issued by Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor after the accused were brought before the court at 8:45 am today.
"The detained individuals, aged between 27 and 37 years old, have been summoned to assist in investigations about the execution of infrastructure development projects, including repairs, maintenance, supplies, and services across Perlis since 2022," stated the report.
The investigation is suspected to involve fraudulent claims for work that was never completed. The detained suspects are believed to hold various roles, including company owners, contractors, and civil servants within the State Secretary's Office and the Perlis Chief Minister's Office.
It has been disclosed that the suspects were apprehended between 7 and 8 am yesterday in Perlis, and inquiries are being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act.
Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, Senior Director of the MACC Special Operations Division in Putrajaya, confirmed the arrests upon inquiry.
