Mohd Syafeeq Mohd Shukri, son of Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, has pleaded not guilty to charges of submitting false claims in the Sessions Court in Kangar. The charges pertain to the alleged provision of drinks for the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, amounting to RM19,505.10 in February.
The 35-year-old faces charges under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. If convicted, Mohd Syafeeq could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and fined no less than five times the amount of the false claim or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
According to the charge sheet, Mohd Syafeeq allegedly submitted a falsified government order document under the name Mohd Farid Abdul Hamid. The document claimed the amount of RM19,505.10 for supplying drinks to the Perlis Ruler at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, despite knowing the information was incorrect.
The allegations suggest that Mohd Syafeeq knowingly provided false information in the document submitted for reimbursement, thereby committing an offense under the MACC Act. The court proceedings have drawn significant attention due to Mohd Syafeeq's high-profile connection as the son of the Perlis Menteri Besar, adding a layer of public and political interest to the case.
