HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has called on Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin to formally submit any information he may have regarding a Korean-linked cult believed to be active in Malaysia.
Saifuddin said the details should be channelled directly to the police, noting that the Royal Malaysia Police’s Special Branch maintains a specialised unit tasked with monitoring and investigating deviant teachings and suspicious religious activities.
“If he possesses information about the group, its operations, methods or the individuals involved, he should relay it to the authorities.”
“Once the information is received, the police will begin an immediate investigation,” he said at a press conference following the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly on Thursday.
He stressed that the Special Branch is equipped to assess practices that stray from accepted norms across different faiths, and urged anyone with relevant knowledge to step forward.
Saifuddin also confirmed that, as of now, the police have not received any reports concerning the alleged movement.
Earlier reports indicated that Mohd Asri had raised concerns during a Perlis State Fatwa Committee meeting, where members were briefed on the purported cult.
Several Muslim MPs and other prominent figures were said to have shown interest or involvement in the group’s activities. – December 11, 2025
