- Emergency services were called to the incident at 8.50am, with the child subsequently transported to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for urgent treatment.
- British Transport Police confirmed that two people were in the car, with one pronounced dead at the scene and the other taken to hospital.
- No injuries were reported among the passengers or staff on the 7.51am Colne to Preston service involved in the collision.
- National Rail announced that train services between Preston and Blackburn have been cancelled until 2pm, with replacement bus services put in place.
