Kota Kinabalu: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (PKDM) President Datuk Peter Anthony was arrested by police Saturday night following a riot allegedly by his supporters outside a general election candidate nomination centre in Tenom earlier in the day.
Sabah Police Comissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah, in a statement today, said Peter was later released on police bail after the latter’s statement was recorded at about sunrise.
“Investigations were carried out under Section 24A (2) Election Offences Act 1954 and Section 147 of the Penal Code at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sabah police contingent headquarters in Karamunsing,” he said.
The riot allegedly occurred after Peter’s nomination was rejected by the Election Commission over his cheating coinviction, which Peter said should not have occurred as the court had stayed the conviction pending his appeal.
