KOTA KINABALU: The fate of Melalap assemblyman Datuk Peter Anthony will be determined after all legal provisions are fulfilled, says Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya (pic).

Citing Article 17(1)(e) of the Sabah State Constitution, Kadzim stated that an assemblyman convicted and sentenced to at least one year in prison or fined a minimum of RM2,000 faces disqualification.

However, he noted that this provision must be considered alongside other relevant legal clauses.

“Peter has 14 days to exhaust legal avenues. If he fails to do so, his seat will be vacated automatically,” Kadzim said at a press conference on Wednesday.
