Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim Yahya confirmed that Melalap Assemblyman Datuk Peter Anthony has been granted leave from the State Assembly sitting.
In his opening speech, Kadzim said Peter had applied for leave for April 10, and April 14 to 17.
Peter, who is also President of Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat, is currently serving a jail sentence after failing to overturn a forgery conviction involving Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
On March 5, Kadzim said Peter would be given 14 days to exhaust all legal avenues before his seat would be vacated automatically.
However, on March 22, he said the Assembly had been notified of Peter’s intention to file a legal application through his counsel.
Kadzim added that a decision would be made within 14 days on whether the application complies with constitutional provisions.
Also granted leave were Lamag Assemblyman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin for April 10, and Tanjung Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon for April 16 and 17.
