Peugeot 508 Facelifted With New Technology & Design

The very attractive Peugeot 508 gets a major redesign.

The Peugeot 508 is without a doubt one of the best looking vehicles to not be sold in Malaysia. For 2023, it has been given a pretty substantial update. There’s a new design with a strong new grille to frame the new Peugeot emblem. Matrix LED headlamps in front and the 3-claw taillights have been given a ‘slim’ design treatment for a more modern look. There’s also a new ‘Epherra’ aluminium alloy 18″ wheel. The 508 badging features new typography and is finished in Basalt Grey.

As before, the Peugeot 508 is available as a sedan and wagon, with a Peugeot Sport Engineered model serving as the flagship.

This revision introduced the new Peugeot i-Connect infotainment system with a 10″ infotainment screen, wireless connectivity and over-the-air updates. A 10-speaker Focal sound system and HD parking cameras are also included. Other noteworthy equipment changes include an electric trunk, night vision cameras, as well as adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality. A 12″ digital instrument cluster is also included.

Conventional engine options include a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (130hp), a 1.6L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (218hp), and a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbodiesel (130hp). There are also 3 plug-in hybrid options badged ‘180’ and ‘225’. These are front-wheel drive models that combine a 81 kW electric motor to a petrol motor set to output either 150hp or 180hp. Both feature an 8-speed e-EAT automatic.

The final plug-in hybrid model is the flagship 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE) model. This is model features all-wheel drive, combining a 200hp PureTech petrol engine, an 81kW electric motor at the front and an 83kW electric motor at the rear.

All 3 PHEV models feature a 12.4kWh battery with the option to charge up over a 3.7kW or optional 7.4kW charger. Multiple drive modes and suspension settings can be selected depending on the powertrain.

Even though Peugeot is now under new management, it would a bit unrealistic for the 508 to be brought into Malaysia. The sedan segment is in major decline and only the premium brands seem to be able to still attract buyers.
