THE Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has partnered with South Premiere Power Corp. (SPPC) and Linseed Field Corp. (LFC) for a feasibility study of supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) directly to economic zones in Region 4A, or the Southern Tagalog mainland consisting of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon (Calabarzon).
LFC operates the country’s largest LNG import and regasification terminal in Batangas, while SPPC runs one of two gas-fired power plants supported by the facility. Their technical and operational expertise will be tapped to assess potential LNG solutions for export-oriented industries in PEZA zones.
Under a memorandum of understanding, the partnership will assess an integrated downstream LNG supply system that could provide PEZA locators with a cleaner and potentially more cost-efficient alternative fuel for power generation and industrial use.
The study will also examine whether LNG can help meet growing industrial power demand in Calabarzon while supporting the country’s transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
The agreement was signed by PEZA Director General Tereso Panga, and SPPC and LFC president and CEO Yari Miralao.
PEZA said the initiative is part of efforts to provide its economic zones with reliable, cost-efficient and scalable energy as industrial estates continue to expand across Calabarzon.
“This MOU is a step toward ensuring that our locators never have to choose between reliable power and competitive costs,” Panga said.
He added that the partnership could provide a sustainable energy solution as PEZA expands its economic zones and positions Calabarzon as a key part of the country’s industrial corridor.
