In a significant step towards promoting emergency healthcare awareness, Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences and PGIMS Rohtak will soon establish a modern CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training kiosk at OPD Block of the PGIMS. The initiative aims to train patients’ attendants in life-saving CPR techniques.
PGIMS Director Dr SK Singhal and Medical Superintendent Dr Kundan Mittal disclosed this while interacting with media persons here on Friday. The project has been initiated under the guidance of Health University Vice Chancellor Dr. HK Aggarwal.
Dr Singhal, while stressing the importance of CPR training for the general public said, “Every person should know CPR. In many cardiac arrest cases, the golden hour is lost before the patient reaches the hospital. If a nearby person knows CPR, precious lives can be saved.”
He pointed out that nearly 8,000 to 10,000 people visit the PGIMS OPD every day. Training such a large number of visitors in CPR could significantly reduce deaths caused by cardiac arrest not only in Rohtak, but across Haryana.
Sharing information about the project, Dr Mittal stated the CPR kiosk would be installed near the main entrance on the ground floor of the OPD block to ensure maximum visibility. A trained healthcare worker will remain stationed at the kiosk throughout OPD hours to provide hands-only CPR training to patients and attendants.
He explained that during cardiac arrest, the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood supply to the brain. “CPR involves pressing the centre of the chest over 100 times per minute in order to maintain blood circulation until medical help arrives. The initiative will strengthen public emergency response awareness and save countless lives in the future,” Dr Mittal added.
Meanwhile, Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, Health University, said the project is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Healthy India” and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s “Nirogi Haryana” campaign. Under the direction of Health Minister Dr Arti Rao, PGIMS has continuously been organising public awareness programs related to healthcare and emergency response.
