The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council has today announced that it won’t be dissolving the state legislative assemblies (DUN) of the three states under the coalition, namely Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan. Hence, the state elections in all three states won’t run concurrently with the 15 General Election (GE15) which will be held this year.

In a press conference today, the PH Presidential Council said that it will instead focus on pressing issues, especially floods. Accordingly, all three DUNs will run until the end of its 5-year expiry date and will be holding state elections some time next year, though no dates have been specified just yet.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri urged for state governments to dissolve their respective DUNs during his announcement of Parliament dissolution so that GE15 and state elections can run concurrently to save on costs. However, it is up to the respective states when to dissolve their DUNs, with most of the states actually declining to hold state elections concurrently with GE15.

Among the states not holding concurrent polls with GE15 include the aforementioned states ruled by PH as well as the states under PAS, namely Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu. Besides that, Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor won’t also be holding state elections as they have just recently held their respective elections within the last 2 years.

So, what do you guys think of the statement by PH? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
